  • Hoping Not To Get “Tebowed” With Media Coverage Of Kellen Moore

OK, let me be very clear about this so that I don’t get any crazy comments directed towards me. I’m very happy to have Kellen Moore on the team. He’s the winningest QB in NCAA history, boasting a ri-dic-u-lous 50-3 record over his career. That’s awesome and I think he has all of the potential in the world.

He could be the next Drew Brees for all I know, he could also be the next Koy Detmer as well. Whose to say?

Either way I don’t care, I just would hate for him to become Detroit’s own Tim Tebow as far as hype and unwarranted coverage is concerned.

I’m just getting a little bit concerned for my Lions fan brethren and the local Detroit sports media. An undrafted QB brought in to compete for a spot at no.3 quarterback is not truly THAT exciting. But I’m seeing the beginnings of a Tim Tebow-esque style of coverage coming around the corner and I don’t like it one stinkin’ bit.

REAL training camp hasn’t even started yet and my left eye is already starting to twitch at each unnecessary mention of Kellen Moore.

Detroit does NOT need it’s own Tim Tebow, one is enough for everybody. I don’t need minute to minute coverage of a quarterback that I hope to never see hit the field for the Lions unless he’s running out to high-five Stafford after another scoring drive, paint me as the bad guy if you’d like. I don’t give a crap.

This ain’t the 2012 version of “Rudy” and he isn’t the little engine that could. I don’t care and I hope that the local Detroit Lions media will not force feed Kellen Moore to us so badly up until the point that I hope he gets cut so that I don’t have to hear about him anymore. OK that was harsh, but you get my point.

Let the kid come in and play ball without the hoopla.

He’s virtually a shoe-in to win the #3 QB spot even though Jim Schwartz says that there is no guarantee that the Lions will keep three quarterbacks on the roster.

As far as what coach Schwartz says, I call “bullcrap”.

He was giving Schwartz-style coach speak(which I love by the way). Of course there is no guarantee. Think about it, all capable 3rd string QBs on Earth could end up being kidnapped by gypsy spies like the Mayans have clearly predicted. But if that prophecy doesn’t come true(and why wouldn’t it?) the Lions WILL keep a 3rd string QB on the roster.

As much as injuries have hit this team at the quarterback position in the past the Lions would be moronic NOT to keep a 3rd string QB on the roster. Jim Schwartz likes to play word games to guard against tipping his hand and he’s smart for it.

So Kellen has a GREAT shot of doing some serious clipboard holding until his first contract expires and that’s exactly where I’d like to see him. It’s GREAT to have a healthy and talented stable of backups and I hope to see it.

I just don’t want to see him on the front of my newspaper sports page more than once a year and I don’t need constant Kellen Moore updates.

Unless we have devastating injuries at the QB spot I’ll be giving him nothing more than the normal amount of attention a QB drafted in the 7th round would get. Even though he was undrafted, I’ll give him 7th round attention because of the 50-3 record, MAYBE 6th round attention, but that’s as good as it’s gonna get with me. With that, I wish Kellen the best.
